New Year’s June Wine Resolution for Learning 3 best ways how not be a lemming
New Year’s Wine Resolution?
Hmm. Sounds fun!
In June?
Hmm. Ok. Why not?
Being a Lemming?
Hmm. Sounds less fun. No one wants to be a blind follower.
Don’t want to be a lemming about wine?
Let’s talk about it!
In case you are new to this monthly New Year’s resolution for wine:
Welcome!
If you have been doing this all along:
Welcome back!
It is always good to start a fun New Year’s Resolution. This resolution is number six! Because this is a fun thing and not a test, let’s review how this started.
New Year’s resolutions can be horrible. All of these exercise more, do more, be more, and weigh less stuff is mind numbing and depressing. It puts on so much unnecessary pressure and stress.
Years ago, I decided to have a silly and fun resolution. My resolution to have more lemongrass (yep, it’s true) could have been handled better. I thought it sounded ridiculous enough, but I had no idea how to cook it. Thinking back, I also am not sure how much more joy it would have added to my life anyway.
New Year’s wine resolutions are the way to go.
Wine Resolutions hold promise for good times and more joy!
To achieve this goal, I suggest a resolution for each month. No more: OH NO, I SCREWED UP MY RESOLUTION AND ITS ONLY THE 3RD DAY OF THE YEAR.
January should not be the only time to make positive changes to your life.
If you want to see what you’ve been missing, here are the links for the past monthly resolutions. Do them in any order. Feel virtuous that you have completed a New Year’s Resolution. Woo!
Click here for January. The first wine resolution was about Chardonnay wine and comparing Old World and New World wines. I talk about those differences in a lot of blog posts. Definitely look this over if you want to know something about Old World Wines (that usually means Europe.) They have rules and regulations out the wazoo. Just saying.
Click here for February. This resolution was all about Champagne. No downside to finding something to celebrate with Champagne.
Click here for March. March was all about the Beaujolais.
Click here for April. This resolution was about Riesling wine. It wears so many different hats. It also can totally mess with people who are trying to do a deductive blind tasting (that means they are trying to figure out what wine it is.)
Click here for May. We travelled to Spain. Such great value wines there.
This month’s New Year’s Resolution is totally different!
Instead of what you may want to discover and drink, it is what not to do.
Woo! Relax and don’t do these things. What could be easier?
These are the 3 best ways to not be a lemming (blind follower, just to be clear):
Do Not Drink any wine you do not like.
Ever.
You do not have to like any wine because “they” say you should. You do not have to like any wine because someone says it is “good.” Feel free to ignore those high scoring wines if you want.
I, personally, do not see the miracle of orange wine. There is plenty of other great wine to be had, so I just don’t drink it. If you like it, great! Drink whatever wine you like.
Do not be a lemming.
Isn’t this the easiest and best Resolution Ever?!?!?!?
Do Not Buy any wine just because a celebrity endorsed it.
There are a number of wines that are known as Celebrity wines. Some of them may be good, but do not choose them just because there is a celebrity name attached to it. Would you choose a doctor based on what a celebrity endorsed? No you would not! Hopefully.
The same goes for any social media recommendations. The advice could be helpful, but no blind following. I have been in wine and liquor stores where the salesperson points out which celebrity was seen drinking this liquor. Who cares? A salesperson who really knows their stuff, and there are many of them, would not do that.
Do not be a lemming.
Do Not Order from the right side of the wine list.
Just to be clear, this means: Do not order wine based on the price! The price is on the right side. Got it? This applies to anywhere you are buying wine, not just in a restaurant. More expensive wine is not always better wine or more delicious wine. Don’t fall for that.
One of my next posts is on the price of wine. One of the reasons is simply supply and demand. That means a Cult wine (also called a trophy wine) is expensive because so many people want that trophy. It may be a delicious wine to drink, or not. To many people it is just a trophy or an investment.
Don’t fall for cult wines, there are equally good wines for a fraction of the price.
Do not be a lemming.
This was not my usual Wine Resolution. I usually go down a rabbit hole trying to share everything I want people to know to have a fun wine resolution. One of my future monthly resolutions will be about Bordeaux, so it will be back to usual.
